Setting Up CrossRef DOI Registration on ScholarJMS

Step 1 — Enter CrossRef Credentials

In ScholarJMS, go to Journal Settings → Integrations → CrossRef DOI. Enter:

• CrossRef Login: Your CrossRef member login (email or username)
• CrossRef Password: Your CrossRef member password
• DOI Prefix: Your assigned prefix (e.g., 10.12345)
• Journal ISSN: Used to build the DOI suffix; must match your CrossRef registration

Step 2 — Configure DOI Format

Set the DOI suffix pattern under DOI Format. ScholarJMS supports:

Choose a format before your first DOI deposit — changing it later may create inconsistencies in CrossRef records. Contact ScholarJMS support if you need a custom suffix pattern.

Step 3 — Publish an Article to Test

Publish a test article (or a real accepted article) in ScholarJMS. Upon publication:

1. ScholarJMS generates a CrossRef-compliant XML deposit file
2. The file is submitted to CrossRef's deposit endpoint automatically
3. CrossRef responds with a deposit ID and status (usually resolves in 5–30 minutes)
4. The article DOI becomes clickable and resolves to the journal article page

You can view deposit status under DOI Management → Deposit Log. Failed deposits are retried automatically and flagged for your review.

Retroactive DOI Registration

If you have previously published articles without DOIs, ScholarJMS can batch-register them. Go to DOI Management → Bulk Register, select the articles, review the generated metadata, and submit the batch deposit. Each deposit costs one CrossRef DOI fee at your membership rate.
